Volunteer Corps Openings


Become a regular part of the H.O.M.E. family! Ongoing volunteer positions allow you to build relationships with our seniors and community.

Volunteer openings include:

Activities Director

Time commitment/schedule: Three days a month for 2-8 hours

Qualifications Needed: Experience as an Activities Director or party-planner

Volunteer to help plan and oversee weekly activities with our senior residents.

Substitute Cooks

Time commitment/schedule: On call Monday - Friday, with a notification by 9:30 am on the day of need and expect to work a seven hour day starting at 10 or 11 a.m.

Qualifications Needed: Experienced cook, comfortable in preparing meals for a large group and interested in meaningful interaction with senior residents.

Volunteers will fill in when our full time cooks are on vacation, leave, or absent. Duties will entail preparing and serving a complete lunch and dinner for 10-20 of our shared living residents, as well as clean up duties.

Errand Assistant

Time commitment/schedule: Two times a month for eight hour shifts, days to be determined.

Qualifications Needed: Comfortable and patient handling individuals with physical disabilities.  Medical background helpful. Valid Illinois Drivers License in good standing.

Volunteer will transport individuals using their own vehicle to various appointments.  May be asked to sit in on doctor’s visit to take notes. Spending one on one time and taking senior on outings may also be asked.

Maintenance Person

Time commitment/schedule: one day a week for 8 hours

Qualifications Needed: Skills in plumbing, electrical, and general carpentry. Assist with maintenance at our locations.

File Organizer 

Time commitment/schedule: two times a month for four hours

Qualifications Needed: office and computer skills. Back ground check required. Volunteer will help manage individual files for our residents as well as bill pay and other administrative type duties.

Resident Companion

Time commitment/schedule: Once a month for four or more hours

Qualifications Needed: Good organizational skills.  Background check required. 

Volunteer will become regular visitor to H.O.M.E resident.  

Food Storage Manager

Time commitment/schedule:  Second and fourth Wednesday of the month from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. 

Qualifications Needed:  Food sanitation knowledge and the ability to organize and clean

Volunteer will assist with the maintenance of the food storage facilities.

Computer Room Manager

Time commitment/schedule: once a month for four hours

Qualifications Needed: Technological and computer expertise

Volunteer will upgrade and maintain computer lab at Natalie Salmon House.  


Time commitment/schedule: Seasonal as needed

Qualifications Needed: Professional experience in landscaping.  Supervisory skills to direct potential volunteers

Volunteer will design and implement landscape plan.

Administrative Office 

Time commitment/schedule: minimum 5 hours per week

Qualifications Needed: Proficient computer skills. Excellent organizational and communications skills.

Assist with mailings, answering phones, data entry and other office duties at Nathalie Salmon House or our main office
