2019 Annual Celebration Dinner
"A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood"
Join us on Thursday, May 2, 2019 for a Mr. Rogers-inspired evening to celebrate the community that comes together to support older adults in Chicago.
Thursday, May 2, 2019
5:30 Reception and Silent Auction
6:30 Dinner and Program
Bridgeport Art Center
1200 W 35th St, Chicago, IL 60609
Our emcee for the evening will be Barbara Mahany, an author and freelance journalist in Chicago, who writes these days about stumbling on the sacred amid the cacophony of the modern-day domestic melee. She was a reporter and feature writer at the Chicago Tribune for nearly 30 years, and before that a pediatric oncology nurse at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
Her newest book, The Blessings of Motherprayer: Sacred Whispers of Mothering, a distillation of her two earlier books, along with new essays, was published in April 2018. Mahany lives in the Chicago area with her husband, the Tribune's Pulitzer Prize-winning architecture critic, Blair Kamin, and their younger son, Teddy, a senior in high school. Their older son, Will, is now at Yale Law School.
We are pleased to honor community partners and volunteers who are committed to uplifting older adults in our community:
- Leona Barth, City of Chicago
- Ernest Dixon, H.O.M.E. Shopping Bus Driver
- Britta Larson, Center on Halsted
- Debbie and George Sevilis, Long-time H.O.M.E. volunteers
- Friends of Lindsay, Long-time H.O.M.E. volunteers
