Here's what you read on Senior Moments from H.O.M.E. in 2017.

The top five blog posts you read this year were about sharing tips, facts, and reflections from our staff. We are excited that you learned more about older adults and our community!

1. Fun Facts about Seniors

seniors_cheers_outing.jpgBack in 2015, Bruce Otto shared some trivia about seniors for National Trivia Day. And it's consistently a hit. Did you know that Sophocles was 89 when he wrote Oedipus at Colonus, one of his dramatic masterpieces?

2. Six Myths About Low-Income Seniors And Poverty

In 2014, our intern Mike Deelstra shared some of what he learned while working at H.O.M.E. For instance, he learned that according to the National Council on Aging, 23 million Americans aged 60 and up were financially insecure.

3. Millennials, Let’s Talk About Aging

Zoo Lights 5.jpgThis summer, Eftiola Trebicka, our Development Associate, reflected on aging as she reached her late-twenties. (It's ok to roll your eyes.) She concludes that "ageist dialogue in our society just proves to us one thing: now, more than ever, it is so important to engage in intergenerational dialogue."

4. Founders Visit at Nathalie Salmon House

I wrote this post in 2014 when our founders, Michel and Lilo Salmon, visited Nathalie Salmon House for the 20th Anniversary of the building opening. Four years later, it was so exciting to see the renovations that updated the apartments and common areas of the building.

5. Leisure activities are important for seniors and here’s why

If you've ever played Bingo with residents who live with in our buildings, you will know that it's more than just a simple game of chance - it's a competition! This fall, Eftiola wrote about why that is important for seniors.
