"When I lost my apartment and I needed help...you guys were my angels on earth."
Like most older adults who move, Denise needed to find a new apartment by necessity. When she needed help with the process, she was able to turn to H.O.M.E. because donors like you support our Moving Program.
"I suffered a great deal in August."
Denise was living in an apartment in Woodlawn when she began to have trouble with her landlord. When it escalated and she realized she was facing discrimination, she knew she needed to find a better housing situation.
Denise receives a Housing Choice Voucher which helps her afford her rent. When she explained what was happening with her landlord, she was told to find a new apartment.
"I really, really appreciate your help in making my moving happen."
Denise found an apartment, and wanted to move as quickly as she could.
Denise gets by on less than $600 per month. The cost of her move was $575. Had H.O.M.E. been unable to cover the cost of her move, she wouldn't have been able to afford to relocate.
"No words can truly describe my gratitude to your agency and the kindness to help someone like me."
Because of donations from people like you, Denise not only could afford the cost of moving, but she also received help from our Moving Coordinator who was there for her from the time she set up the move to moving day.
Your support gives older adults like Denise peace of mind during one of life's most stressful situations.
How you can help
We rely on donations from individuals like you to help seniors maintain their independence by having the housing and support services they need.
This year H.O.M.E. has joined #ILGive to celebrate Giving Tuesday.
Will you mark your calendar for November 27, 2018 to give to make a big impact for seniors in 2019?
As a bonus, our board and staff have agreed to sing (beautifully) "Walking in a Winter Wonderland" in UGLY holiday sweaters at our annual holiday party if we reach our goal of $25,000. Watch the video here.
Or, donate today.
This post is part of our series to celebrate Giving Tuesday, which will take place this year on November 27, 2018. The idea behind #GivingTuesday is to kickoff the holiday-giving season, in the same way that Black Friday and Cyber Monday kickoff the holiday-shopping season.
