H.O.M.E.'s wheelchair-accessible shopping bus serves older adults living in senior buildings throughout Chicago. Seniors are given free, safe transport from their residence to a nearby store where they can shop for groceries, medication and household items. They are then taken back to their residence where our driver helps them with their packages and ensures they are safe and secure before leaving.
- We provided 3,156 individual shopping trips on our bus.
- 70 percent of our Shopping Bus riders used a cane, walker, wheelchair or other walking aid.
- 30 percent of the buildings we served were located in communities with no large grocery store (commonly known as "food deserts").
- 71 percent of our Shopping Bus riders reported that we have increased their access to fresh, healthy food
