The majority of the elderly that look to H.O.M.E. for help live at or below the poverty level. Most cannot afford to pay for a decent apartment on the open market, forcing them out of their homes. Often they are forced to move into subsidized or public housing. |
|

Seniors who must relocate generally cannot afford the extra expense of a regular moving company. But H.O.M.E. is there to help. We have caseworkers who visit the elderly to schedule and assist with planning their move. H.O.M.E. also has two full-time moving crews and two full-size moving trucks that provide disadvantaged seniors with this free relocation service.
Housing Opportunities and Maintenance for the Elderly also uses its moving crew to pick up donated furnishings and household items and distribute them to Chicago's needy elderly.
Everyday, our caseworkers take calls from seniors in need of basic furniture and household necessities. In some instances, we provide individual pieces of furniture as requested, such as a couch, end table, or easy chair. In many other cases, we furnish entire apartments for needy seniors who cannot even afford a bed or blankets for themselves.
"H.O.M.E. gave me everything in here! This couch, my TV, that chair, all my dishes, and look at my bedroom set. It all matches. Isn't it beautiful?"
