Pat Crowley House residents tour Whole Foods

For a number of months H.O.M.E. has been receiving donated food every week from the Whole Foods story on North Kingsbury Street in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago. On Monday, February 1 the residents of Pat Crowley House (PCH) were invited to tour the store and also be guests for lunch.

Six of our residents turned out for the tour and when they arrived at the front door about 10:15 three of seniors were offered the use of the electric wheel chairs so that they could zoom around the store with ease. Because meals are provided at Pat Crowley House some of the folk hadn't been in a grocery store for years and it was quite an experience for them to see the huge store and vast variety of foods. Please check out the Lincoln Park stores website by clicking here, it is an amazing place

Christine Doyle-Vincent, Marketing and Community Relations Specialist was our host and tour guide. She and her co-worker Fanny explained many of the details of the design and construction of the building, things that any of us would have missed without her explanation. We also learned about Whole Foods mission and values and how they live them out at the store.

Following the tour we had a wonderful lunch in their classroom. The food was outstanding and while we were eating I was struck by how quiet it was, no one was talking, everyone was just eating away happily. Caren Arden-Tabani, the manager at PCH said it was never this quiet at the house during meal times, but then we don't often serve the type of food we enjoyed that day.

Once again all of us at H.O.M.E. are so grateful for our relationship with and the generosity of Whole Foods.
