Volunteer at H.O.M.E.
Throughout the year, H.O.M.E. welcomes volunteers for seasonal and ongoing projects as well as one-time volunteer opportunities.
H.O.M.E. strongly believes in bridging the generations. We believe that we all have a great deal to offer each other. Our Volunteer Program is looking for people of all ages willing to share their various skills and talents. Many of the older adults we assist have a wealth of wisdom and experience to share with the larger community.
Volunteers help us achieve our goals in a number of ways:
Activities Assisting Seniors Citywide
- Weatherization Projects - You can help low-income senior homeowners prepare their homes for the harsh winter months by sealing their windows. It's easy. No experience is necessary, and we provide the training.
- Painting - Small groups are needed to assist senior homeowners by painting rooms in their home.
- Cleaning - Low-income senior homeowners occasionally seek our assistance with their yards and house cleaning. Service period is ongoing, as needed.
ACTIVITIES AT OUR INTERGENERATIONAL HOMES
- Friendly Visitor/Companion - One-on-one visiting with the elderly
- Spring Cleaning - We invite groups to help out with cleaning our intergenerational homes and their grounds as the warm weather arrives.
- Transportation Assistant - Help pick up items for seniors; assist by driving seniors on outings
- Guest Chef - Provide the ingredients and cook lunch or dinner on a Saturday or Sunday for 10-15 residents at our intergenerational home. You can volunteer just once, once a month or more often if your schedule permits
- Lend Your Talents/Lead Activities - Help facilitate entertainment at our intergenerational houses: movies, cards, arts and crafts, classes, music, dance, etc. Your ideas are welcomed!
- Computer Lab Tutor - Volunteers with technical skills may teach a computer class to residents or simply provide on-site assistance in our computer lab.
- Light Sewing - Assist residents for whom sewing is a challenge by hemming or sewing buttons on their clothes.
ACTIVITIES AT OUR ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES
Office Assistant - Assist with mailings, answering phones, data entry and other office duties at Nathalie Salmon House or our main office
H.O.M.E. is also very interested in finding opportunities for our seniors to volunteer in community projects. If you are a school group or other another organization interested in receiving help from our seniors, please contact us.
