History of H.O.M.E. • Awards & Statistics

According to the 2005 U.S. Follow Up Census, there are over 50,000 seniors in Chicago living below the poverty level.  Here's how H.O.M.E.'s programs and services made a difference. 

In fiscal year 2008 alone, H.O.M.E.:

  • Moved 230 seniors to new homes
  • Delivered furniture to 998 seniors
  • Made 778 household repairs for senior homeowners living in low-income neighborhoods
  • Housed nearly 75 elderly residents in our three intergenerational homes
  • Provided over 4,800 trips on our bus to take seniors shopping
  • Benefited from a pool of nearly 700 volunteers who helped improve the quality of life for many low-income seniors


H.O.M.E. has received the following awards and recognition as a leader in providing providing service to low-income seniors:

  • 2002 The James Brown IV Award of Excellence for Outstanding Community Service - The Chicago Community Trust

  • 2001 The City Design Center of the Univeristy of Illinois Chicago's Award for Best Practices in Affordable Housing
  • 2001 Chicago Cares' Star Partner Award
  • 2000 The Chicago Low-Income Housing Trust Fund Legacy Award
  • 1998 The Chicago Housing Authority's Neighborhood and Community Empowerment Award
  • 1998 The Chicago Housing Authority's Outstanding Service Award
  • 1997 Silver Seal Award for Mixed Use Projects ~ NAHB ~ National Council on Senior Housing
  • 1995 The Fannie Mae Foundation's Maxwell Award of Excellence for Low-Income Housing Development
