Upkeep and Repair Program
Our three handymen and one volunteer from the Ignation Volunteer Corps, do minor indoor repairs in the homes of low-income seniors. During fiscal year 2010, which ended September 30 they completed 1,209 repairs in 581 households. Forty-three percent of those repairs were emergencies.
Plumbing, electrical and repair of doors and locks make up about 72 percent of repairs. Installation of bathroom grab bars, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors also help keep the elderly safe in their homes. Seniors are asked to reimburse H.O.M.E. for parts but the labor is free.
